We are always getting ready to live but never living
(Ralph Waldo Emerson)
I have not met anyone who has not gone through an experience that would prove to be traumatic or labeled as bad. I personally have suffered child molestation and abuse at a very early age. However, I was able to overcome my afflictions and start living my life by using the following keys:
Living requires recognizing a survivor mentality.
What is a survivor mentality and do you have it? Yes, you do if, you are living your life consume from prior afflictions or bad experiences. An affliction could be a near fatal car accident, a failed marriage or as simple as a loss friendship. But whatever the affliction, it’s possibly keeps you from living the life of your dreams.
Identify Afflictions!
Living requires correcting a survivor mentality.
This is as simple as changing the negative emotions/responses associated with your affliction to positive ones. I personally use positive affirmations, I call my -I am(s). If fear is the emotion/response I remember, then I used "I am faith-filled/hopeful" and re-associate/replace it whenever affliction memories surface.
Identify Negative Emotion/Response
Re-associated Positive Emotion/Response
Living lives in your present by enjoying each and every moment.
Seize every opportunity to choose to smile, laugh and just be - happy. Only one thought can occupy the mind at one time so keep your mind clear of negative thoughts, which lead to negative emotions/responses - re-associate, and you will have peace of mind!
The secret to living life is to first recognize and correct a survivor mentality, re-associate negatives for positives and enjoy each and every moment.
