My Best Friend
I know he loves me from the look in his eyes as he watches my every move
When I sit on the sofa, he snuggles up close, nibbles and kisses my face
I move to the kitchen, to make some tea, and turn as he leans against me
At 10pm he is right by my side as I lock and bolt every door
We climb to the bedroom, he stops at the door, then reluctantly turns away
I get into bed and pull up the quilt, then just as I turn out the light
I feel a weight on the bed, as he wriggles across, looks deep into my eyes
He sighs at the signs, his nose cold against mine, he huffs at my “No”
Accepting rejection, he rushes away, to his basket outside the door
Rolling his eyes, he curls up tight, breathes deeply then starts to snore!
You can look for a friend in a man or a girl, but sometimes they look away
For you never will find a more steadfast friend, than to belong to a dog!
