Looking At The Truth Of Self

By Rev. Diannia Baty

You make a call to a friend and you ask the question, How are things going?” They respond with different day, same stuff. In other words nothing is changing in their life except the day. To me every day is a
cause for celebration. I get excited because I never know what the day will bring. I want to be fully
present to experience that. If things are not going well in your life or changing for the better, that is the time to take a long introspective look at your behavior, habits, beliefs and spirituality. Many of us don’t want to do that because we are afraid we just won’t like what we see. We all have sides to our personality that make us what we are. We are much quicker to see where someone else might improve something in their lives but not our own. We can readily discern how someone else could make some profound changes. We wonder why they keep repeating the same things over and over knowing that it will lead to ruin and heartache of some kind. What is it that keeps us from going forward in our lives? We always know on a deep soul level what we need to change. So many of shy away from all the good in our lives simply because we don’t believe that we deserve better. When our life experience is negative we often say that we knew it would turn out that way. If you knew it then why did you allow it into your life? Why do we make choices that turn out so awful for us? Like gerbils on a wheel we go around and around and wind up back at the same place. If there was a place that you could go to meet the many aspects of you, how many parts of you would you meet? If you
could stand back without judgment and observe all the you’s in the room, which ones would you want to change or get rid of? Which ones would you embrace or want to keep? The biggest thing holding most people back from positive change is fear. We fear that what we fear may become real or is real. It is a scary place to allow your mind to go to so we just don’t do it. Many times the things that we fear never happen but if we ignore what is causing us so much pain and confusion we may help it to become real. For example, one of my brothers had a sore that appeared on his cheek. It got worse and he wouldn’t go see a doctor. When it
became clear that he was in deep trouble, I asked him why he didn’t do anything about it. He said it was just an infected sore. I told him if it was just an infected sore wouldn’t the wisest choice be to have someone look at it and prescribe medication. His next comment stunned me. He said, “what if it is skin cancer?” I had
come to that conclusion already and apparently so did he. His fear was holding him back from action. I told him it was time to face his fear. It was his choice but he needed to understand and embrace the wise or the
unwise choice and live with either decision. He went the next day to the doctor and ultimately it was skin
cancer. They had to remove a lot of tissue because he had waited so long. His fear was that it was cancer and he would die from it. Believe me if he had ignored it for much longer that fear would have become real and just who do you think would have caused it?

Whatever is holding you back from making wise choices and decisions is always clouded by fear. If you are in a bad relationship and you know it but don’t do anything about it, your fear may be that this is your last chance at love. If the relationship is abusive and painful, the right circumstances could happen to make this true. If your partner kills you or because of depression you do yourself in, it truly was your last chance at love. Who was responsible? You may be in a dead end job you hate. You don’t make a change because you are afraid you won’t find another job or you fear the interview process. Soon because of poor job performance brought on by stress and unhappiness you are fired. Who is responsible? Face the truth of all the many selves of you. Which ones do you want to kick to the curb and which ones do you want to heal and empower? Imagine for a moment there looms before you a beautiful castle with many rooms and in each room is another version of you. Be brave and go into each room and sit for a while and visit. There in this castle is the God of your heart escorting you and assisting you to understand. You are safe in this castle of the mind. Allow yourself to truly see what it is you need to see. Embrace the truth of you. Be kind and forgive yourself for any past decisions you have made that hindered, hurt or caused you or anyone else pain. God will guide you to your higher self. The guidance of the universal creator is flawless but free will is always yours. It is time to consider kicking your fears to the curb and dealing with the truth of self. There are some parts of your spirit that need your warmest embrace and a chance to be healed. You are truly a magnificent creation. It is time you knew it.
