Compassion

By Joyce Sheldon

Compassion is a profound and positive human emotion prompted by the pain of others. Ranked a great virtue in numerous philosophies, compassion is considered among the greatest of virtues in all the major religious traditions. There are two major areas where compassion is necessary for the spirit and soul to soar. The first is compassion toward others, that unselfish outpouring of understanding and heart-to-heart connection discovered when all pretense has been dropped, all barriers have been eliminated and all insecurities set aside. It is that faithful time when one person reaches out to another in pure love and acceptance, with the desire to assist and help heal. The second area is compassion toward ourselves, that time of forgiveness of our weaknesses and failures. It is that faithful time when we accept ourselves as imperfect beings moving toward a state of perfection. It is that time when we courageously reach out to ourselves, as we would to others, with pure love, understanding and a desire to heal. It is compassion toward ourselves that is probably more difficult to practice. It requires a basic forgiveness for our shortcomings and a faithfulness of our potential. It is the establishment of the firm and faithful belief
that we are worthy of having a compassionate heart for ourselves - providing a place to find relief from the
pressures of the world - a place where peace and serenity are constants. Yes, as human beings one of our
highest goals should be to reach out to others with pure compassion - without judgment. It is equally as
important to reach out to ourselves with that same compassion - without judgment. Give yourself a break today! Give yourself the loving gift of compassion as a means to spiritual growth and soulful progression  toward your destiny. Faith Coaching Does your spirit need a boost? Are you running on empty and in need of
spiritual vitamins and minerals such as faith, courage and compassion? Perhaps a faith coaching session
can help restore your basic beliefs, your core values and your inner peace. Perhaps a non-judgmental
listener will help put your concerns into proper perspective and return you to a joyous existence of
peace and serenity. I have changed my name! Today I shall be known as compassion. I shall walk and talk compassion. I shall breathe compassion. To each and everyone I meet, I shall show a compassionate heart.
I wonder what I shall call myself tomorrow … perhaps it will be humor … or understanding … perhaps tomorrow my name will be simply kindness…
