I was visiting my sister, relaxing on the couch. It had been a long day but I wanted to visit family so I took the drive to see them. I hadn’t noticed my nephew jumping up and down playing.
I was exhausted and happy to sit for a moment after the week I’d had. He kept jumping back and forth, when finally he stopped. He looked at me and said, ”Auntie Lisa, do something!” Startled, I replied, “What?”. He says it again, “Do something!” I thought to myself, do something, what does he mean do something. He said in his 4- year old voice, “ Yeah, do something Auntie Lisa.”
My mind went into deliberation. Do something, what is he trying to say. And finally it hit me, he wanted me literally to “do something”. Don’t sit there like a bump on log, get up and do something. So, I got up and danced with him. He loved it. We laughed and had a fun time for the next hour.
It reminded me of the times we sit wondering what to do when we are faced with a challenge. The most effective thing to do is take a step towards the goal. It might be a small step, but the biggest reward in being stuck is action.
